The problem is that Mr. McClellan presents no major new detail to support his conclusions about Iraq, or even about the Administration’s deliberations about how to sell the war. This may be because he was the deputy press secretary for domestic issues during the run-up to war and thus rarely attended war strategy sessions.

The Simgle Biggest Failure Of The Hoax

While worrying about CO2 emissions, the Senate's upcoming Marxist top down "control your economy and pretend to control the weather" climate bill’s most notable failure is it does not suggest the CO2-free energy option, nuclear energy, to solve the problem. This simply indicates a lack of seriousness in solving the CO2 problem, just the desire to collect more in taxes.

Like with the illegal alien problem, that didn't control the border or enforce existing laws, the lack of nuclear power in the climate bill is all the clarity you need.

France now generates almost 80% of its electricity using nuclear energy, and it also enjoys some of the cleanest air in the industrialized world. The US has 103 nuclear power plants which supply about 20% of our base electrical load. There is no reason that nuclear power shouldn't be supplying 90% of the US base load, except for the very same Democrat Marxists in Congress. They are blocking all energy sources, including nuclear in order to constrain supplies on the market.

And now you know.

Democrats in Congress, raise taxes fund socialism and gun control. It's your job to provide the links between the first two and the last.

Blame Congress for High Oil Prices

What would Reagan do? In 1981 Reagan was faced with a similar problem, sky-rocketing energy prices caused by the dumbest President in US history, that dunderhead Carter -- Reagan deregulated oil prices and the oil companies freed up exploration, and triggered the biggest peacetime expansion of the US economy in history. What the Democrat Socialists are now trying to destroy. History is your friend, just not WikiPedia history, which is infested with liberal lies and liars.

I think the WSJ article needs a slight refinement, it's not Congress, it's the Democrat Socialists in Congress that think they have found their nirvana with the global warming hoax. After restricting supplies of energy for 30 years, they finally have arrived at what they see as the 'fix'. Convince enough people to pay sky high taxes so government can pretend to control the weather. They don't even plan on spending the tax money collected on energy related items, but for things like the peace core and other liberal wet dreams like free universal health care, that infinite demand sump.

Gasoline prices are through the roof and Americans are angry. Someone must be to blame and the obvious villain is "Big Oil" with its alleged ability to gouge consumers and achieve unconscionable, "windfall" profits. Congress is in a vile mood, and has dragged oil industry executives before its committees for show trials, issuing predictable threats of punishment, e.g. a "windfall profits tax."

But if there is a villain in all of this, it is Congress itself. That venerable body has made it impossible for U.S. producers of crude oil to tap significant domestic reserves of oil and gas, and it has foreclosed economically viable alternative sources of energy in favor of unfeasible alternatives such as wind and solar. In addition, Congress has slapped substantial taxes on gasoline. Indeed, as oil industry executives reiterated in their appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 21, 15% of the cost of gasoline at the pump goes for taxes, while only 4% represents oil company profits.

To understand the depth of congressional complicity in the high price of gasoline, one must understand that crude oil prices explain 97% of the variation in the pretax price of gasoline. That price, which has risen to record levels, is set by the intersection of supply and demand. On the one hand, world-wide demand has accelerated mainly due to the rapid growth of China and India.

It has done so by preventing the exploitation by IOCs of reserves available in nonpark federal lands in the West, Alaska and under the waters off our coasts. These areas hold an estimated 635 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas – enough to meet the needs of the 60 million American homes fueled by natural gas for over a century. They also hold an estimated 112 billion barrels of recoverable oil – enough to produce gasoline for 60 million cars and fuel oil for 25 million homes for 60 years.

This doesn't even include substantial oil shale resources economically recoverable at oil prices substantially lower than those prevailing today. In an exchange between Sen. Orin Hatch (R., Utah) and John Hofmeister, president of Shell Oil Company during the May 21 Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, the point was made that anywhere from 800 million to two trillion barrels of oil are available from oil shale in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.

Oil shale becomes economically viable when crude oil exceeds about $40 a barrel, unlike ethanol which seems to never become viable, because of land and water use issues. Shale oil is called 'synfuel'.

Then there is the punchline ...
If Congress really cared about the economic well-being of American citizens, it would stop fulminating against IOCs and reverse current policies that discourage, indeed prohibit, the production of domestic oil and natural gas. Even the announcement that Congress was opening the way for domestic production would lead to downward pressure on oil prices.
Which is the key issue, the Democrat Socialist in Congress care about one thing and one thing only -- POWER. Get used to tyranny, it creeps up on you, especially when you are upset about what the tyrants want you to focus on, instead of what the real problem is.

Billions wasted on UN climate programme

Billions of pounds are being wasted in paying industries in developing countries to reduce climate change emissions, according to two analyses of the UN's carbon offsetting programme.

Leading academics and watchdog groups allege that the UN's main offset fund is being routinely abused by chemical, wind, gas and hydro companies who are claiming emission reduction credits for projects that should not qualify. The result is that no genuine pollution cuts are being made, undermining assurances by the UK government and others that carbon markets are dramatically reducing greenhouse gases, the researchers say.

The criticism centres on the UN's clean development mechanism (CDM), an international system established by the Kyoto process that allows rich countries to meet emissions targets by funding clean energy projects in developing nations.

And to add insult to injury, the new tax money gets funnelled into Democrat Socialism projects, like the Peace Corp and 'free health care'.

Comrade Obama's Land Of The Losers

Comrade Obama gave a truly frightening speech at the Wesleyan's graduating seniors ceremonies, if I were i the audience, I would have walked out. Comrade Obama isn't very steeped in the culture of America, he is born of the Marxists of Africa, those who rule, not those who roam free, pursuing life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Never mind "The Audacity of Hope." Obama was trumpeting "The Ubiquity of Failure." "The Equality of Need." "The Endlessness of the Dole."

OK, I exaggerate - a little. Here are his actual words: "Our collective service can shape the destiny of this generation . . . Individual salvation depends on collective salvation."

That is, unless we come together and fix America's myriad flaws (like poverty, which never disappears), we're all doomed.

This went well past the standard graduation calls for community service and voluntarism. The senator chided those who seek life's material rewards: "Fulfilling your immediate wants and needs," he insisted, "betrays a poverty of ambition."

In fact, Obama himself was betraying a poverty of understanding US history.

Comrade Obama, he is not an American, he is a Communist, he never talks about his Marxist father, and what he might have taught him, to do so would expose the fact that pappy was the the right hand man for a Marxist thug. One of the elite snobs that Comrade Obama so aptly plays in real life.

Comrade Obama wo do well to seek out a student of real Communism, one who has seem it's grandeur first hand, Czech President Vaclav Klaus, who has often argued that economic growth is most likely to create the innovations and know-how to combat any challenges climate change could present in the future. Communism, just equally distributes the misery, which is what Camrade Obama wants for America.

Satellite Montoring

One example of the capability now available with satellites is the monitoring of volcanic gases released i to the air. Usually this is classified under a catch-all category 'VOG' -- VOG is more or less the same as the anthropogenic “smog” produced by car/industrial exhaust, but produced by volcanic gases - carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide amongst others. One particularly noxious gas is sulfur dioxide, which can cause headaches and other respiratory problems in humans. Sulfur dioxide is very common in the discharge of volcano eruptions.

Mt Etna in Greece has recently become active and as a result the instruments are turned on the emissions from recent eruptions.

Volcanic SO2 from the Etna volcano (Italy) as measured by GOME-2 on 14 May 2008 north-east of the volcano. The SO2 was emitted during the second eruption on 13 May 2008.


The volcanic SO2 plume from the first Etna eruption on 10 May 2008 was tracked by GOME-2 for three days after the eruption. The plume was transported over large distances towards the east with the prevailing wind and travelled from the volcano over Greece to Asia.

The Hawaiian Islands are loaded with volcanoes, and the instruments have caught them belching into the atmosphere large quantities of 'VOG'. This is from Kilauea, March 1-7, 2008 and March 20-27, 2008



One interesting fact visible from all the pictures is the lack of same from any of the nearby cities. Sulphur dioxide reacts with water particles in the upper atmosphere to produce sulphuric acid known as 'acid rain'. Sulphur dioxide also can cause health problems in humans, in particular people suffering from asthma and chronic lung diseases are susceptible to effects caused by this noxious gas. It's the 'rotten egg' smell you may notice when you are around vents in the Earth's crust.

Volcanoes can also alter the Earth's climate, by discharging huge amounts of ash high into the atmosphere, where it can change the Earth's albedo and lower temperatures worldwide. LArge volcanic eruptions can eject millions of tons of SO2 and ash into the atmosphere In the case of the when Mount Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines June 15, 1991, an estimated 20 million tons of sulfur dioxide and ash particles blasted more than 12 miles (20 km) high into the atmosphere. This large an amount can impact global climate, reducing the amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth's surface, lowering temperatures in the troposphere, and changing atmospheric circulation patterns.

So far, the recent ongoing Mt Chaiten eruption in Chile has not come anywhere near these quantities of SO2 and ash.

World Praises Progress In Iraq

World leaders, including UN chief Ban Ki-moon and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on Thursday hailed Baghdad’s progress in combatting violence and stabilising Iraq.

A declaration adopted by 100 delegations at a Stockholm conference said the participants “recognised the important efforts made by the (Iraqi) government to improve security and public order and combat terrorism and sectarian violence across Iraq.”

It also acknowledged political and economic progress made, and said that “given the difficult context, these successes are all the more remarkable.”

Stilfing Debate

As the case for AGW worsens, the obvious result is to try and shutdown all forms of criticism. This article in the New York Sun explains how the Royal Society, a UK body that is supposed to promote the highest ideals of science, has adopted a totally one-sided approach to global warming.

This is not science and does not deserve the time of day -- While it might be understandable that the mainstream media wants to promote an alarmist message, as it wants dramatic news to attract the viewer, the Royal Society should always be open to any genuine scientific research whatever its conclusion.

On the other hand, the question of where it gets its funding needs to be asked. If it's the government, which I believe it is, then their independence must be very questionable.

Pay more taxes so government can pretend to control the weather, this is how they plan to do it.

England's Socialized Medicine

What do all socialist schemes to run health care have in common -- They all result in rationing. In fact everything run by government, results in rationing. Why, because when things are free, or at least appear to be free, then the only result is a bottomless pit of insatiable demand. It's like some law of the jungle that when supply is artificially constrained people will wait in longer and longer lines to get the few that remain.

The Soviet Union of old tried this, and it resulted in the entire country doing nothing more than waiting in long lines, for everything.

We would be wise to pay attention to the English socialized health care before we ram head on into the same dead end. The headline shows how supply is being rationed, not as many beds. A major decrease in quality while at the same time, constricting supply.
NHS hospitals lose 32,000 beds in a decade

More than 30,000 hospital beds have been lost since Labour came to power, with record cuts in NHS wards last year. The Department of Health claims bed numbers have fallen because hospitals are more efficient, with patients staying for shorter periods

The cutbacks mean increasing numbers of hospitals are going on "black alert" – which involves closing their doors to new patients because they are full.

Patients' groups described the loss of the beds, at a time when overcrowded wards have seen soaring rates of killer infections, as "a national scandal".

The reduction contradicts a pledge from Tony Blair at the turn of the century that there would be 7,000 more NHS beds by 2010. New figures, seen by The Telegraph, show that the number of health service beds fell more than 8,000 last year, as the NHS began a reorganisation process which will mean the closure of dozens of hospitals.

More than 40 per cent of maternity units turned away women in labour last year because they had no room.

Meanwhile, ambulances have been forced to queue outside overstretched hospitals, treating patients in car parks just yards from accident and emergency departments. The new statistics, revealed in response to a parliamentary question by Ed Vaizey, the Conservative MP, show that almost 32,000 NHS hospital beds went between 1997, when Labour took office, and 2007.
Costs sky-rocket with insatiable demand, the only possible solution is to cut back the number that can be taken in at a time -- Meaning, lengthen the lines.

Nothing complicated about it. Free is never free, no matter who tells you otherwise. The only thing absolutely free in the world is ignorance, and that we seem to have in never ending abundant supply.

When you give up your responsibilities you will have no more rights.

You've Got To Be Pretty Ignorant

You have to be pretty ignorant to buy the 'no drill' policy put out by the Democrat Socialists in Congress. But since most people now days are government school educated, I guess it's easier than it used to be. If price is too high, supply is too low. Something even a Democrat Socialists in Congress should be able to understand, but just can't seem to get the hang of. So they trot out Jimmuh 'the Dumb' Carter's windfall profits tax, which was so spectacularly successful the first time around, it nearly killed the US economy. But then again, when you listen to the dumb ones spill the beans, what Rep Maxine Waters did last week, you begin to realize the dumb Democrat Socialist farts in Congress are probably going to give it another try.

Leave it to the Democratic majority in Congress to fight rising gas prices and growing dependence on foreign oil by imposing a windfall-profits tax on U.S. petroleum companies, while refusing to let them tap America's vast oil and gas reserves in the Alaskan wilderness and offshore.

Congressional demagogues have always used "Big Oil" as a handy pejorative, but criticizing the oil industry now seems to be a national pastime on Capitol Hill, with both conservative and liberal Democrats piling on.

Part of the new wave of criticism, of course, stems from the fact that oil lagged behind the CPI for decades — serving as an important brake on runaway inflation. Now oil — along with food — is a prime cause of inflation.

Nevertheless, those politicians and pundits who now loudly denounce "Big Oil" for the surge in energy prices should seriously consider the consequences of imposing punitive windfall-profits taxes on an industry that is so critically important to the U.S. economy.

The most likely outcome is that a windfall-profits tax would produce the same result as a similar tax did in the 1980s — reducing investment in domestic oil production.

The windfall-profits tax that was adopted during President Jimmy Carter's administration drained tens of billions of dollars from the industry, money that could have been spent on energy exploration and production in the United States, and ended up increasing our reliance on foreign oil.

Further, that windfall-profits tax failed to raise a fraction of the revenue forecasted.

In other words, the windfall-profits tax of the 1980s failed miserably, and it would fail again this time around.
Price too high, supply is too low. Simple economics. If you levee a punitive tax on it, you get less of it. Doesn't matter what 'it' is.

The new crop of old time Democrat Socialists, the leftover 60s hippie crowd, are going to try and break Jimmuh 'the dumb' Carter's record. Can they do it? Sure with Commie-Obama as their leader, he is dumber than Carter if that's even possible, as it has now been found, I would guess it will be really easy. Commie-Obama is so dumb that the Democrat Socialist should be able to easily roll him over.

Remember, Jimmuh Carter was a nuclear engineer, so when Jimmuh told you that, you were supposed to believe he knew something super secret that you didn't, so when Jimmuh said the world would be out of oil by the year 2000. Little did you know at the time, how dumb Carter really was, well some of us did. Jimmuh was really good at pounding nails, an occupation he should stick with.

Sony Inks 2-Way Cable Deal

Sony Electronics has negotiated an agreement with the country’s major cable operators, which collectively pass over 105 million U.S. homes, to begin producing two-way digital cable ready products that will not require a separate set-top box.

The company, which made the announcement in conjunction with the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), said the binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the six largest cable companies - Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Charter, Cablevision and Bright House Networks on the bi-directional cable initiative will open the doors for similar agreements with the cable MSOs and other consumer electronics companies. It is expected to make bi-directional cable-ready products available to more than 82 percent of U.S. cable subscribers.

Sony and the NCTA said other consumer electronics companies “have been invited to formally join the MOU.”

Under the agreement the parties will adopt the Java-based “Tru2way” solution as the national interactive “plug-and-play” standard; new streamlined technology licenses; and new ways for content providers, consumer electronics manufacturers, information technology companies and cable operators to cooperate in evolving the Tru2way technology at Cable Television Laboratories (CableLabs), the cable industry's research and development consortium, Sony said.

A key element of the agreement involved the use of “write once, run anywhere” applications, and to the incorporation of secure digital interfaces that protect consumers' home recording rights along with copyright owners' rights to secure their digital content, Sony said. Exact details of MOU terms were not released to give other potential signatories time to complete their review of the document.
This could be a very big deal, as it buries a long running dispute between commercial equipment suppliers and cable companies. More here and here.

Bejing Olympics



Beijing China, about one year ago.

Olympics 2008 will be hosted by the most polluted country in the world, China. Beijing is one of the most polluted city in China. China is the number one polluter in the world. The cold weather brought on by what else but 'global warming' hasn't helped either. They heat mostly with wood and coal in the outlying areas, or don't heat at all. They obvously haven't perfected the home scrubbers for their chimneys.

I wonder what the drive-by media will do when you can't see the Olympic action for all the smog? I don't watch sports, well maybe a little curling every now and then.

Explanation: This flat horizon stretches across the red planet as seen by the Phoenix spacecraft after yesterday's landing on Mars. Touching down shortly after 7:30pm Eastern Time, Phoenix made the first successful soft landing on Mars, using rockets to control its final speed, since the Viking landers in 1976. Launched in August of 2007, Phoenix has now made the northernmost landing and is intended to explore the Martian arctic's potentially ice-rich soil. The lander has returned images and data initially indicating that it is in excellent shape after a nearly flawless descent.

Democrat Socialist Energy Plan

Now we know what Rep 'San Fran Nan' meant when she insisted the Democrat Socialists would bring down gas prices. Not surprised, the Democrat energy plan to sue OPEC did not bring down gas prices today. Instead, oil hit another record above $135 a barrel over supply worries. Nor did the show trial of big oil execs have any effect, except to send the price up, as it became clear the Democrat Socialists wouldn't dare relax any of the stupid constraints on drilling, refining and exploration that would bring down the gas prices.

Oil, price too high, drill more. Something even Democrat Socialist Senator Schumer should be able to understand, and explain to his dumb friends.

Blame Washington, Not Oil Companies

Senate Democrats, dragging executives from five major U.S. oil companies before them for a second day, say they're alarmed by our "failed" oil markets. What they should be is ashamed.

After all, it's mostly the fault of the Congress that we're in this mess. True, the Big 5 announced profits of $36 billion in the first quarter, as oil breached $100 a barrel and just kept going. This prompted nothing but contempt from Illinois Sen. Richard Durbin this week: "Where is your corporate conscience?" he asked the oil executives, forced to sit and listen.

Well, markets have failed. But the failure is due to Congress' refusal to let oil companies drill on federal lands, thereby cutting sharply into our supply of crude as world demand grows and prices soar both here and abroad
So ... exactly what do we replace markets with Sen Durbin? Tell us, don't try and hide, be like Maxine Waters did Wednesday, be up front with the plan -- SOCIALISM, right Senator? Socialism, the biggest failure ever known.

The markets did not fail, the have been forced to restrict supply because of government. It's becoming obvious that the Democrat Socialists in Congress want to nationalize oil companies and take over the energy business, what for you ask, as a way of controlling people.

A direct assault on capitalism and the free markets, followed by an assault on individual freedom of Americans. Why do you think these Democrat Socialists attack Walmart, big health care, the mortgage industry ... all an attempt to get you to support them taking over control of industries.

U.S.-Mexico Fence Rises, Illegal Traffic Slows

Homeland Security is furiously working to complete construction of a planned 670 miles of fence along the southern border before the Bush administration ends in eight months. Critics, particularly in Texas, are working just as hard to derail the project, citing environmental concerns, private-property seizure and a hefty price tag.

According to a 2007 study by the Congressional Research Service, the fence could cost as much as $70 million a mile to build and maintain over the next 25 years. At 670 miles, that would run as high as $47 billion, which doesn't include the cost to acquire land.

The fence near Rancho Anapra replaces an old fence that Border Patrol agents readily acknowledge did little to deter migrants and dope smugglers. The new one rises 15 feet to 18 feet out of the Chihuahuan desert, reinforced by steel bollards and six feet of reinforced concrete beneath.

As recently as a year ago, residents here say their dusty Mexican village -- a poor neighborhood on the outskirts of Ciudad Juarez -- was a popular staging ground for migrants and dope smugglers. But the fence project and a corresponding spike in the law enforcement presence across the border have slowed the illegal traffic considerably.
Isn't that what the American people asked when they said no to AMNESTY and yes to enforce the laws that exists. Employers will not hire when the penalties will be enforced.

No one wants to talk about the costs to the US taxpayer.

Totals are 160.6 BILLION BARRELS of oil in the ground with the best estimates.

Mounting concerns about global energy supply are fueling a drive by the oil industry and some U.S. lawmakers to end long standing bans on domestic drilling put in place to protect environmentally sensitive areas.

This is how Senator Charles Schumer dismissed the benefits of ANWR in an April 28 press conference:

SCHUMER: What does the president do? He takes out the old saw of ANWR. ANWR wouldn’t produce a drop of oil in ten years, and it’s estimated that if they drilled in ANWR, in 20 years it would reduce the price one penny. We’ve been pushing for a long time for energy efficiency. We believe in a price-gouging bill so that the big oil companies can’t collude. We believe that there’s too much speculation in the markets, and we believe that ought to be reined in.

So why did Schumer make this argument two weeks later on the Senate floor:

SCHUMER: If Saudi Arabia were to increase its production by 1 million barrels per day that translates to a reduction of 20 percent to 25 percent in the world price of crude oil, and crude oil prices could fall by more than $25 dollar per barrel from its current level of $126 per barrel. In turn, that would lower the price of gasoline between 13 percent and 17 percent, or by more than 62 cents off the expected summer regular-grade price — offering much needed relief to struggling families.

One penny decrease for American oil but 62 plus cents price decrease for Saudi oil?

So what did Sen Schumer say again? US oil would reduce the price pennies, but Saudi oil would reduce the price by how much? Obviously the answer is the politicians have no knowledge of the Internet.

What is up with ANWR

There is also need for a parallel gas pipeline to be able to bring the gas in the Prudhoe Bay area to market. A new pipeline would carry the ANWR oil to the Prudhoe Bay pipeline head-end.

Ethanol Vehicles for Post Office Burn More Gas, Get Fewer Miles

The U.S. Postal Service purchased more than 30,000 ethanol-capable trucks and minivans from 1999 to 2005, making it the biggest American buyer of alternative-fuel vehicles. Gasoline consumption jumped by more than 1.5 million gallons as a result.
So isn't this the wrong way, gas consumption is up?
``You're getting fewer miles per gallon, and it's costing us more,'' Walt O'Tormey, the Postal Service's Washington-based vice president of engineering, said in an interview. The agency may buy electric vehicles instead, he said.
Yes, that's what people say, about 30% less mpg, thanks for checking that out on the taxpayers dime. A suggestion, next time, why not buy just one, and run some tests -- Did you have to buy 30,000 just because you could?
The experience shows how the U.S. push for crop-based fuels, already contributing to the highest rate of food inflation in 17 years, may not be achieving its goal of reducing gasoline consumption. Lawmakers are seeking caps on the use of biofuels after last year's 40 percent jump in world food prices, calling the U.S. policy flawed.
Yaw think, why is that? Drives up both food and energy costs, isn't that what the Democrat Socialists want?
``Using food for fuel has created some unintended consequences: food shortages, the high price of livestock feed,'' said Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican. ``I think it's leading a lot of people to wonder whether our corn-based ethanol goals need to be adjusted.''

Stimulating Demand
Lost in the debate over the fuel's contribution to food scarcity is the possibility that the ethanol policy itself isn't working, said David Just, an associate professor of economics at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. It may stimulate demand by making gas cheaper, he said, an argument supported by at least two U.S. government studies.
Really, what was your first clue? Could it be that ethanol is a lousy fuel, that's why Henry Ford switched to gasoline, helps to know your history. Yes, a similar path was taken with diesel, it was first peanut oil, but the refining and use showed how much superior oil was, so the biodiesel was dropped. Why do we think it's any different today?
The Energy Independence and Security Act, passed in December, called for ethanol production to more than double to 15 billion gallons in 2015 from 6.5 billion last year. The U.S. pays oil refiners like Exxon Mobil Corp. 51 cents in tax refunds for each gallon of ethanol they blend into regular gasoline. Automakers get extra credit toward federal fuel-efficiency standards for models that can run on ethanol.
One tankful is all you will need, then you too will know that miles per gallon goes substantially down, while paying the same price or higher for fuel. Sound like a good deal to you?

Iraq Could Have World's Largest Oil Reserves

How rich is this, Iraq saves world economies, by pumping humongous amounts of oil -- Even though the Iraq war was not fought for oil. But, that would give the no blood for oil crowd new talking points. Everyone knew Iraq has been doing their best to establish the size of their oil reserves, ever since the war, the government has had geologists looking the place over. Now comes this report ...
Iraq could have largest oil reserves in the world

Iraq dramatically increased the official size of its oil reserves yesterday after new data suggested that they could exceed Saudi Arabia’s and be the largest in the world.

The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister told The Times that new exploration showed that his country has the world’s largest proven oil reserves, with as much as 350 billion barrels. The figure is triple the country’s present proven reserves and exceeds that of Saudi Arabia’s estimated 264 billion barrels of oil. Barham Salih said that the new estimate had been based on recent geological surveys and seismic data compiled by “reputable, international oil companies . . . This is a serious figure from credible sources.”
That would frost a few Democrat Socialists plans for a smaller more miserable America. It would also up the stakes for getting Iraq to a stable government and able to drastically increase the amount of oil it exported -- Now standing at about 2.5 mBPD.

The benefit accrued to the world's economies would be huge. Now Ireaq has a chance to repay part of it's debt in treasure that the US has given for Iraq's freedom. In the end it may all work out.

Global Warming Myth

The following is from the The Washington Times.
Al Gore and his minions continue to chant that "the science is settled" on global warming, but the only thing settled is that there has not been any since 1998. Critics of this view (rightfully) argue that 1998 was the warmest year in modern record, due to a huge El Nino event in the Pacific Ocean, and that it is unfair to start any analysis at a high (or a low) point in a longer history. But starting in 2001 or 1998 yields the same result: no warming.

Science no longer provides justification for any rush to pass drastic global warming legislation. The Climate Security Act, sponsored by Joe Lieberman and John Warner, would cut emissions of carbon dioxide — the main "global warming" gas — by 66 percent over the next 42 years. With expected population growth, this means about a 90 percent drop in emissions per capita, to 19th-century levels.

The Earth has been warming at the same rate since the end of the little ice age, about 1700 AD. But overall the Earth has been cooling slightly since the end of the Holocene Climate Optimum, about 6000-8000 years ago. Earth is currently experiencing the Holocene Interglacial period, awaiting the start of the next major ice age. Major periods of glaciation occur about every 100,000 years, and have done so for millions of years. No one knows why the pattern repeats, just that it does.

Sky High Gas Prices Got You Down

The source of the problem was strangely enough supplied by yesterday's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, where the oil company execs were drilled by the Judiciary Committee. Anyone else find it odd that the Democrat Socialists on the Senate Judiciary Committee now see themselves as energy experts? Gee, who gave Schumer a brain? It's obvious what the Democrat Socialist think, they run the country through control of the Judicial Branch, the 'Men in Black' who issue fiats that cannot be challenged by anyone.

The answer is simple, the Democrat Socialist are constraining the supply side of oil, they limit drilling options, they restrict recovery and exploration everywhere. Powerline has the wrap of the high points.

Microstamping: It Doesn't Work.

What's microstamping, that's the stupid California liberal wet dream of stamping some sort of identifying mark on the firing pins of guns, so the cartridges can be identified as to what weapon may have fired the round. The bottom line, it doesn't work, and it is easily defeated, and probably adds hundreds of dollars cost to a firearm.

News story about California's microstamping, it doesn't work and it isn't needed. How do you know the user of the gun was the owner of the gun, or was in possession at the time the gun was used for a crime? The whole notion is absurd, I don't accept the liberal premise that microstamping spent cartridge cases will do anything to 'prove beyond a shadow doubt' it proves nothing.

However, as we found in Florida, locking up the criminals and throwing away the key works great. The Democrat Socialists don't like that part, takes too many of their voters off the streets.

He views Iran's nuclear threat as "tiny." He'd meet with its leader, who is pledged to Israel's destruction. His adviser wants Israel to disarm. Clearly, Barack Obama is running for Jimmy Carter's second term.

If we've been particularly hard on Sen. Obama in recent days, it's because he's a gift that keeps on giving. He consistently demonstrates his lack of qualifications to be commander in chief based on experience, worldview and judgment.

His latest foray into dangerous naivete came while campaigning Sunday in Pendleton, Ore. He told the assembled multitude: "Iran? Cuba? Venezuela? — these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us."

He went on to defend his policy of "aggressive personal diplomacy" and called for "tough, disciplined and direct diplomacy. That's what Kennedy did. That'd what Reagan did."

Well, not quite.

Obama responded during a campaign stop Monday in Billings, Mont.: "The Soviet Union had thousands of nuclear weapons, and Iran doesn't have one." And he'll probably believe that right up to the moment the phone rings at 3 a.m. and he hears: "Mr. President, Tel Aviv has been nuked."
IBD nails the naive unfit for Presidential duty Obama. The poor guy has all the voice inflection and nuance down, makes the kiddies shiver, but he just doesn't have the brains or experience to be President of America.

New Solar Cycle Not Packing Much Punch

Many solar scientists expected the new sunspot cycle to be a whopper, a prolonged solar tantrum that could fry satellites and raise hell with earthly communications, the power grid and modern electronics.

But there's scant proof Sunspot Cycle 24 is even here, let alone the debut of big trouble.

So far there have been just a couple minor zits on the face of the sun to suggest the old cycle is over and the new one is coming.

The roughly 11-year cycle of sunspot activity should have bottomed out last year, the end of Cycle 23 and the beginning of Cycle 24. That would have put the peak in new sunspot activity around 2012.

But a dud sunspot cycle would not necessarily make it a boring period, especially for two solar scientists with the Tucson-based National Solar Observatory.

Two years ago, William Livingston and Matt Penn wrote a paper for the journal Science predicting that this could not only be a dud sunspot cycle, but the start of another extended down period in solar activity. It was based on their analysis of weakening sunspot intensity and said sunspots might vanish by 2015.

And here's the punch line: That last long-term down period, 1645-1715, coincided with the Little Ice Age, a period of bitter cold winters.

That kind of talk could ruffle some feathers in this time of climate change and global warming, starring man-made carbon dioxide as the devil.
Today the sun is quite with two little dots of cycle 23 polarity.

Wall Street Journal publishes a column by former principal deputy commissioner of the Social Security Administration Andrew Biggs on "Obama's faulty tax argument." Like his imporobable history, Obama's argument in favor of higher taxes is both staightforward and misleading. If Obama is elected president, we can count on at least two things: bad economic policy and bad foreign policy. And we won't be able to say we weren't warned.

We have all become familiar with Senator Obama's new brand of politics. First, you demand civility from your opponent, then you attack him, distort his record and send out surrogates to question his integrity. It is called hypocrisy, and it is the oldest kind of politics there is. The same old race hustle, with a Harvard degree.

Sen. Robert Byrd Endorses Obama

An Ex-Klansman endorsing a black guy, one has to appreciate the extreme irony of this.

The KKK was the Democrats terror wing, established after the civil war to make sure that the Democrats retained control of the southern state legislatures. It was the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that put a stop to the terror, an act that Senator Byrd led the Senate filibuster against. Senator Byrd was a prominent KKK figure in his time.

Looks like there are a whole lot more than a couple of scientists that reject the Al Gore unproven theory of AGW. Mathematical computer models prove nothing, zilch, nada, zip, until they can predict the present, they haven't a clue about the future. This rejection is probably because Al Gore's unproven theory has not met the global test of proof. It simply cannot can't stand the rigor of analysis and experiment, which makes AGW just another of the long line of liberal hoaxes.

Firefox 3 Release Candidate

Mozilla has released the first Firefox 3 RC. It should be all polished up and ready to go, which is the way Mozilla does it. So time to give it a go if you are so inclined. I have been using Firefox 3 since the first beta and it is abig improvement over Firefox 2. Especially with memory handling, the leaks appear to have ben banished, and the stability is good as ever. Other improvements are the PGO ( performance guided optimizations) so far only for Windows machine, and the vastly improved JAvaScript speeds.

The big story from the users perspective is the new 'Places', the integrated history and bookmarks manager interface powered by SQLite, a small open source database engine that provides much more robust querying capabilities. With Places you are able to search your history, tags and bookmarks with a fully fledged search interface. You can select where to search, what to search and then save the search as a 'Smart Bookmark' that updates as your personal web grows and changes. Places becomes a central area for bookmarks, browsing history and downloads all in one spot with thumbnails and tagging -- All designed to help you organize your little piece of the web. Places makes it easier to deal with huge numbers of bookmarks by adding one-click bookmarking, tagging, annotations, and intelligent searching through your history right in the url location bar, and it seems to work. Once you get the hang of it, very cool. But it may take some time to understand and make use of all the new goodies.

Tagging is another new big feature, tagging is tightly related with Places and some of the changes made to the location bar: click on an empty star icon in the location bar to save the current page as a bookmark. Click it again and you can specify a folder to save the bookmark to, create a new one and add tags you can later search on. The Tags are used like personalized search key words.

There are many changes to the location bar, autocomplete works on web addresses but also looks into bookmark and history page titles and tags which make it more comprehensive. The searching function features adaptive learning so as you use the feature it learns how you may be using it and what you are looking for. Personalized.

The rest is mostly new gingerbreard, themes and such, but the stability, speed and memory reduction will be noticed by anyone with an older resource limited machine. Others can load it up and use the max, but personally I find a lot of the gingerbread distracting and prefer to keep it lean and simple.

Get yours here. Note that this isn’t the final Firefox 3 and there may still be some ugly hidden bugs that could mess with your data. Unlikely, but that’s why it is called a release candidate.

A plug for scrapbook extension -- If you do research on the web, one of the most annoying things is the content you use may disappear from the web, leaving you with a blank stare. One way to avoid this is to use a Firefox extension called 'scrapbook'. It is invaluable, because scrapbook stores the target page locally on your computer, so if the content disappears, at least you have a local archived copy. Get it here at the author's site, or from the Firefox extensions section of Mozilla's website..

Get Used To It

First some simple truths ...
  • All taxes are paid by people like you and me.
  • Free is never free, YOU will always pay for your free stuff.
  • If the price is too high, the supply is too low.
  • Corporations don't print money, they sell products.
  • Government prints money.
  • The world's economies run on oil.
  • And lastly, revolutionaries are always Communists.

Stagflation -- persistent inflation combined with stagnant consumer demand and relatively high unemployment. Under normal conditions one would expect inflation to heat up the economy. In other words, prices are going up while the economy is going down. The word was coined during the crippling inflationary period of the 1970's -- Jimmy Carter's America.

The reason the FED generally increases interest rates during periods of higher inflation -- This helps to cool the economy and prevent inflation from spiraling out of control. The primary cause of inflation is an increase in the money supply. It's what bailouts do to the economy. It's a little like stomping on the accelerator while at the same time standing on the brakes, bad for your car, bad for the economy.

So what is going on now? The economy is going flat while interest rates are going down, and inflation is skyrocketing. See the problem? The trigger was that government feel good experiment in the form of "ADDI 2003", The American Dream Downpayment Initiative", the Act that made housing loan qualification discrimination -- And allowed illegals, all manner of unqualified buyers and then high end speculators ( flippers ) to buy house, no money down, no credit check. The bills are coming due now, and someone has to clean up the mess. Around here, condo and house flippers got caught in the down draft big time.

Back to basics ...
Energy costs drive the price of everything in America. Raise energy costs, the price of all goods goes shooting up, like today. Tax cuts and bailouts don't work, because costs keep climbing. Well, now we have made the dumbest mistake of all, we coupled energy costs to our food costs. Even Jimmy Carter wasn't this stupid. Biofuels will destroy the world by starvation and deforestation -- Count on it.

Another way to look at it, it's Carter-McGovern Democrats trademark liberal economic policy. A command and control "tax the rich, windfall profits tax, get the oil companies, get Walmart, get the healthcare providers mentality, help unions", Democrats own branding of Marxism. Marxism is fueled with the politics of envy and hate, the objective is "fairness". High energy prices triggered it for Democrat Jimmy Carter, the worst President in US history. Interest rates went to 22% to try and combat high inflation, inflation went to 14% as the money supply was inflated by government policy. The futility was obvious to everyone, except Jimmy Carter. The US and to a large extent the world economy, runs on oil. Oil prices skyrocketed, the economy stalled.

Never forget, government can do little to stimulate the economy, but can do a whole lot to destroy it. Ask Hugo Chavez, a darling of Carter-McGovern Democrats, how it's going in Venezuela -- Venezuela for all practical purposes has stopped as a free market economy, Chavez just steals the oil money for himself, like most dictators do.

Democrats talking worldwide to thugs and dictators resulted in Democrat Jimmy Carter installing the mullahs in Iran, so they could set up their terror shop right in the middle of the world's oil supply, and Mugabe installed in Zimbabwe, so that African blacks could be terrorised by a real murderous dictators.

Ah, the young, they haven't a care, they haven't a clue. They think what is when they were born is what has always been and will always be. How wrong they are.

Don't bother with Wikipedia and Jimmy Carter, it's been so thoroughly white washed by liberal sycophants. You need to go to a library and look him up in a real encyclopedia -- Something I doubt many people do anymore, go to a real library and do research work. Wikipedia is a liberal tripe shop, rewriting history for the benefit of liberalism. Another topic to stay away from in Wikipedia, global warming -- All you get is tripe. Everywhere you see it, just move on, it's probably not true. The scientific literature is your friend, especially peer reviewed science papers, use google scholar.

You Dizzy Yet

Did it ever occur to these people that they are beginning to look like a bunch of chickens pecking in the barnyard at ants, instead of serious scientists?
The number of hurricanes and tropical storms forming over the Atlantic may drop this century because of global warming, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in a study that contradicts prior research.

The scientists took a climate model that mirrors the increase in Atlantic storms in recent years, and then plugged in forecasts for future warming. The results, published online yesterday in Nature Geoscience, showed a decline in the numbers of both hurricanes and tropical storms.

Today's study challenges theories that climate change will boost storminess. Research last year led by Greg Holland, a climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, linked last century's increase in hurricane activity to warmer sea surface temperatures.

Gas Prices

China Quake

The active fault zone that caused a powerful earthquake Monday in Sichuan Province, China, is believed to have made the land to shift by as much as 13 meters, according to seismic wave analysis by Tokyo University's Earthquake Research Institute.

The largest shift occurred in a mountainous area in Wenchuan County, about 50 kilometers northeast of the epicenter, according to the institute. Strong jolts and landslides may have caused massive damage in the county, although the extent of the damage in the area is not yet known.

The active fault zone is thought to be about 300 kilometers long. Kazuhito Hikima, a contracted researcher at the institute, examined how the fault zone was formed based on records of seismic waves observed across the world.

New Uses For The Polar Bear

McCain Global BS Ad


You can sum this up as "pay more taxes and government will pretend to control the weather".

Here is the McCain global BS ad. Can anyone explain to me how global warming causes high food prices? High oil prices? It's ethanol, government mandated ethanol, that is causing food prices to rise. It's not drilling and building new refineries that causes fuel prices to rise. Both are caused by government.

Coupling food prices to energy prices, brought on by the Energy Act of 2007, that doesn't supply one drop of energy, is a very bad idea. The coupling comes because if the food market won't pay the price asked, then the ethanol producers may. So in the end both commodities markets pay the same price for grains and corn -- Except for the subsidies that are fuelling the ethanol loser business.

A better solution ...

As an aside, this McCain ad is fear mongering for ignorant people, and illustrates how ignorant the politicians are when they speak to the people.

Green Tax Revolt, In England: It Seems They Found Out

In the UK it looks like large majorities of the people have figured it out -- You pay more in taxes, and government will pretend to control the weather. As long as Pelosi fly back and forth to California on a government supplied and fueled jet, as long as lawmakers convoy the 3 blocks to events in monster Chevy SUVs, then I think it's quite proper that the public think that those running around acting like our hair is on fire are just joking and not serious about anything except raising taxes. It's a cruel word, but actions speak louder than words.
Green tax revolt: Britons 'will not foot bill to save planet'

More than seven in 10 voters insist that they would not be willing to pay higher taxes in order to fund projects to combat climate change, according to a new poll.

The survey also reveals that most Britons believe "green" taxes on 4x4s, plastic bags and other consumer goods have been imposed to raise cash rather than change our behaviour, while two-thirds of Britons think the entire green agenda has been hijacked as a ploy to increase taxes.

The findings make depressing reading for green campaigners, who have spent recent months urging the Government to take far more radical action to reduce Britain's carbon footprint. The UK is committed to reducing carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050, a target that most experts believe will be difficult to reach. The results of the poll by Opinium, a leading research company, indicate that maintaining popular support for green policies may be a difficult act to pull off, and attempts in the future to curb car use and publicly fund investment in renewable resources will prove deeply unpopular.
Works for me ... Now that NASA says global warming is taking a 10-30 year holiday, who is to say that nature wasn't doing the warming all along. Oh sure, man might have caused a small insignificant part of it, and there is no doubt that the Earth has been warming steadily since the 1700s and the end of the Little Ice Age at about 0.5-0.7 C per century, but no where near the catastrophic levels that the Goracle preaches, and surely by any sane metric not enough to warrant destroying our life style.

For the last 6-7 years the Earth has been cooling at an impressive rate of about 0.4 C per decade. It's time to cool it with the hoax.

The Antarctic is Melting, The Antarctic is Melting


Assuming you can do simple math, the Antarctic has 1.45 times as much sea ice extent now as it did in April 1980. What happened? Does saying, make it so? Apparently the media must think so, but with open science, the satellite photos and analysis say otherwise.

How many times in the last months have you heard some weenie in the drive by media say Antarctic sea ice is melting? Or the favorite ruse, the temperature in the Antarctic is rising, so exactly how does the Antarctic land ice melt if say the daily temperature is 60 below zero and it went up a couple of tenths?
