CARB said ethanol usage was 2.5x the CO2 as straight gasoline. What you thought it grew and harvested itself and then hopped in the bath?

Get This Crap Out Of My Gasoline

There is a point to be made, anyone with a little science background could have told you that adding 10% ethanol to gasoline will reduce the BTUs in the gasoline by about 3-5% closer to the 5% figure. It's actually elemental, the BTUs go down, the energy goes down, the mileage goes down.

The local gas stations have switched to E10 blend gas and the results are dismal. I've noticed a 2-mile per gallon decrease in fuel efficiency using the ethanol-laced E10 gas. Friends have noticed the same. It's costing significantly more to use the stuff. Where I was getting about 30+ mpg on my usual commute, using E10 my mpg now barely breaks 28 mpg, a 7% drop. The price is the same. So much for the plan to stretch fuel, by adding food, if you add 10% Ethanol at the same price and lose 7% in mileage, sounds to me like this is a loser for the people big time.

With a worldwide oil shortage this has got to rank right up there with dumb. Shouldn't we be trying to stretch our oil supply not use it up faster?

Meanwhile, back at Congress, most of America's oil reserves remain locked up by the Democrat Marxists in Congress. Would someone tell me why people vote for these fools? A planned Marxist economy is only for fools, not educated people.

Wishful Thinking on Cellulosic Ethanol

Supporters of ethanol, stung by the backlash over its unintended but foreseeable consequences (see, e.g., here and here), namely, increasing hunger due to a run-up in global food prices and increased threats to biodiversity, now tell us that cellulosic ethanol will come to the rescue. The theory is that cellulosic ethanol, which is still in the research and development phase, would be produced from non-edible plant material, e.g., switchgrasses, crop residue and other biomass that is not currently grown or used as edible crops. Thus, it is implied, it would have no effect on food prices.

But this is wishful thinking.

If cellulosic ethanol is indeed proven to be viable (with or without subsidies), what do people think farmers will do?

Ethanol Saves The Planet

Works the same way DDT did and still does. 30+ million have died of malaria since the bogus DDT ban was enacted. I wonder how many millions this new liberal CO2 boondoogle will kill before it's put down.

Corn Ethanol

You know what it is, the stuff you are paying billions to subsidize so that you can have two CO2 modules for where you used to only have one. The stuff that gets you about 70% the mileage per gallon as gasoline. The crap that rusts your fuel system, storage tanks and pipelines. The crap in the old days that they once used for gasoline before they found gasoline.

Hey, even that liberal rag the NYTimes says using ethanol produces twice the CO2 per mile as does gasoline. Yep, twice, that is 2 times for those that can't do math. So why is it so great? Funny you asked, because look at all the smiling know nothing politicians tell you how great it is.
