Texas Gov. Rick Perry, after offering up late-night fodder with his forgetful moment at this week's Republican presidential debate, opted to get in on the joke with an appearance on David Letterman's show Thursday night.

Capping a day of interviews in which he tried to laugh off the embarrassing moment, Perry gave the TV audience his own list of "Top 10 Rick Perry Excuses" for being unable to remember which three federal agencies he would eliminate.

In a separate interview on Fox News Thursday night, Perry explained that the campaign decided to have a "little bit of fun with it." His campaign website invited people to comment on which agency they'd like to forget -- Perry said the site got over 2,000 hits Thursday.

On Letterman, Perry chalked his brain freeze up to everything from Mitt Romney's good looks to a deficiency of energy drinks.

Perry's carbon-themed attack on Romney

Rick Perry’s taking a swing at Mitt Romney on the issue of energy, releasing a messaging video this morning that accuses his opponent of adopting Obama-style policies on carbon emissions.
The video, which landed in Morning Score, says Romney implemented “job-killing carbon caps” in Massachusetts. The closing frame reads: “Romney & Obama: Carbon Copies.”

Mitt Romney and President Obama are carbon copies when it comes to environmental policies.

Jobs 101

“Jobs 101” then cuts to Perry explaining his “4 Core Principles” for job creation.
“One, is don’t spend all of the money. Two, you know, is keeping the taxes low and under control,” Perry says in the video. “Three is you have your regulatory climate fair and predictable. Four is reform the legal system so frivolous lawsuits don’t paralyze the employers that are trying to create jobs. And over the years we have followed this recipe to produce the strongest economy in the nation. Since June 2009 Texas is responsible for more than 40 percent of all of the new jobs created in America.”
Perry spokesman Mark Miner added that Obama should be looking to Texas for solutions instead of presiding over a government that spends more and more money.

Perry attacks Romney, Obama in policy speech

Rick Perry said Friday anyone with doubts about how he would govern as president should simply look at Texas. In his first domestic policy speech as a candidate for the White House, Perry touted his decade at the helm of the Lone Star state, where he said he'd kept taxes low, environmental regulations at bay and signed sweeping medical malpractice reform into law.

Perry drew a stark contrast between his record and that of Mitt Romney, his chief GOP rival, and raised the specter of the health care law Romney ushered through as governor.

"As Republican voters decide who is best suited to lead this country in a new direction by stopping the spending spree and scrapping Obamacare, I am confident they will choose a nominee who has governed on conservative principles, not one whose health care policies paved the way for Obamacare," Perry said.

"I knew when I got into this race I would have my hands full fighting President Obama's big government agenda. I just didn't think it would be in the Republican primary," Perry continued.

Perry: Texas Tea --- I Love My Country More Than I Care About Obama’s Feelings

The Boston Herald followed Perry’s trip in New Hampshire,  where he took aim more at Obama and the President’s call for a kinder, gentler campaign:

“The rhetoric will probably get heated. I’m going to be outspoken, I’m going to be passionate, I’m going to be calling it like I see it,” Perry told the Herald in a one-on-one interview, as he shrugged off Obama’s recent scolding that he should be “more careful” about what he says.

“And if I hurt the president’s feelings, well, with all due respect, I love my country and I love future generations more than I care about his feelings,” the 61-year-old governor added.

Perry, who embraced the Tea Party even before GOP presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann, also brushed off Democratic attempts to paint him as a marginal candidate.

“It’s the height of hypocrisy for this president to call anyone a marginal performer. If anyone is a marginal performer, it’s him. He has downgraded the good name and credit of this country,” Perry said. “Talk about someone who has marginalized America.”

Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Wednesday told a New Hampshire business crowd that he harbors major doubts about human contributions to global warming, questioning the motives of scientists who have warned about accelerating climate change and arguing against expensive "anti-carbon programs."

A candidate in waiting, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is elbowing the Republicans already in the 2012 presidential race as he courts party activists, operatives and donors still shopping for someone to back against President Obummer.

His appearance Saturday at the Republican Leadership Conference offered yet another tantalizing hint that he's ready to upend a crowded field of candidates who have worked months to amass name recognition, organization and campaign cash. The longest serving governor of his state drew much interest despite little effort so far to put together a traditional campaign.

"I stand before you today as a disciplined conservative Texan, a committed Republican and a proud American, united with you to restoring our nation and revive the American dream," Perry said during an address that repeatedly drew the crowd to its feet.

He sounded every bit a candidate.
