Author of the Declaration of Independence and the Virginia statute for religious freedom, member of the Continental Congress, statesman, diplomat, Secretary of State, Vice-President, 3rd President of the United States, founder of the University of Virginia. Made the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 and sent out the Lewis and Clark Expedition to explore it
