Thomas Paine, Got some time
The original Thomas Paine was a libertarian, and in some quarters is seen as the spark that got it all started for America. He originally wrote a pamphlet called "Common Sense" the arguments contained are often debated today. He had a knack for making things easy to understand by the common man. Originally the pamphlet was published anonymously, before Paine finally owned up to the work. At the time of it's publication, the question of revolution was still undecided, so anonymous made common sense.
UPDATE and BUMP: YouTube star summoned to White House?
The man who created two phenomenally successful "We The People" YouTube videos urging Americans to stand up against Congress and reclaim their republic now – or perhaps lose it forever – reportedly has been summoned to the White House by President Obama to discuss the subject matter of the short films.Basso's first video:
Bob Basso, who posts videos under the name funbobbasso on YouTube, has created videos in which he portrays Thomas Paine, author of the "Common Sense" pamphlet that made the case for independence during the American Revolution.
Basso, whose website offers his services as a motivational speaker, uses the YouTube presentations to condemn "non-representing representatives" and warns, "Only when they feel the almighty wrath of 'We The People' marching in the streets from California to New York shouting 'We're mad as hell and we want our country back' will they get the message they work for you."

The Error Of Obama
Hate can cause you to do irrational things you would not regularly do, like forget who you are voting for, what you should have known about them before voting, and how easy it is to turn ignorants into flat out idiots by promising them lots of other people's stuff. Such is the case with the left, BDS and the freak show that now is Obama.
Here is a summary from Mark Steyn: Missing the point [Mark Steyn]
The Economist is the latest of the smart guys to notice that President Obama is proving strangely unlike the guy they told us he was back in late October:
His performance has been weaker than those who endorsed his candidacy, including this newspaper, had hoped. Many of his strongest supporters—liberal columnists, prominent donors, Democratic Party stalwarts—have started to question him. As for those not so beholden, polls show that independent voters again prefer Republicans to Democrats, a startling reversal of fortune in just a few weeks. Mr Obama’s once-celestial approval ratings are about where George Bush’s were at this stage in his awful presidency. Despite his resounding electoral victory, his solid majorities in both chambers of Congress and the obvious goodwill of the bulk of the electorate, Mr Obama has seemed curiously feeble.
The geniuses then go on to explain why this is: first, he hasn't "grappled" with the economy as singlemindedly as he should; second, he hasn't managed his relations with Congress very well. Jennifer Rubin gently explains what the smart guys have missed:
The Economist had Obama pegged wrong. Yes, there is an element of managerial incompetence, but the real issue is that the Right was correct about Obama: he’s an ultra-liberal at least on domestic policy, not a pragmatic centrist either on policy or in style. His mode of governance — denigrate the opposition, engage in ad hominem attacks, refuse to compromise on substantive policy, disguise radical policy intentions with a haze of meaningless rhetoric — bespeaks someone supremely confident in his ideological views...
This is the point: The nuancey boys were wrong on Obama, and the knuckledragging morons were right. There is no post-partisan centrist "grappling" with the economy, only a transformative radical willing to make Americans poorer in the cause of massive government expansion. At some point, The Economist, Messrs Brooks, Buckley & Co are going to have to acknowledge this. If they're planning on spending the rest of his term tutting that his management style is obstructing the effective implementation of his centrist agenda, it's going to be a long four years.
And how about this?
In an accomplished press conference this week, Mr Obama reminded the world what an impressive politician he can be. He has a capacity to inspire that is unmatched abroad or at home.
Oh, dear. That's so January 20th it makes these toffee-nosed Brits sound like straw-sucking hayseeds. Here's Gail Collins in The New York Times:
National Consensus Update...
Barack Obama — Kinda boring. Did you see the news conference? Same thing over and over again. Not that we mind. In these troubled times, we like stability. Thank God we didn’t elect somebody who was all charisma and exciting speeches...
No I didn't watch the news conference, why bother. Everything Obama says is meaningless, he will simply do whatever he wants tomorrow anyway. It's what he does, not what he says that matters. And what he is doing is trying to destroy America as we know it.Character, now there is a word you will never associate with Obama. Here are a couple of more, liberty, freedom, free markets, core principles of most Americans.
And that is the way it's headed. Buyers remorse, big time is a coming. I doubt the hopey changers thought communism when they voted for Obama, their mistake. Now we are stuck with this freak Obama and his Kenyan Marxist ways. We will regret it for a long time to come.

Hannity's Turn
Yet, he has crystallized in one short speech, the call for "stop the power grab mania" in America. What he doesn’t realize is that his warnings against socialism, a huge government and nationalized health care are resonating with a large portion of American public now, as Obama and his administration continue to try and wrest power FROM the people to take FOR the government. Are you ready for health-care rationing? Energy rationing? Prosperity rationing?
I think not. Obammunism is not what America wants, and I bet not what the hopey changers thought they heard Obama say. Who didn't know Obama was a Marxist? Read his damn books, if you have any doubt. Demagogues come along in history every so often, people with a gift for reading the teleprompter just so, and convincing ignorant people they can have lots of other people's stuff if they will just vote for me. Legal revolution it's called. Just what Hitler did in Germany in the early 30s. Hitler took over dictatorial control of Germany legally, and then once that control was legally obtained, took Germany into total tyranny.
I have often wondered how it happened.

Dead Fish Coverup
Why do we fall for this crap?
What's really going on --
Buying Grenades And Rocket Launchers in the USA
Yes it's probably true, that Americans who want drugs are causing the market to respond and supply drugs. A bad situation. But the war on drugs has been used often enough to restrict American's freedoms, it's high time we gave it up. Legalize them, and punish the user who get stoned in public, drive cars and endanger other people.
Back to the news, there is this little bit left out of reports designed for USA audiences:
Hillary Clinton admits US blame for Mexico drug violenceI am surprised she didn't apologize, but I digress.
Mexico has repeatedly said it cannot contain the increasingly brutal cartels, now armed with grenades and rocket launchers, if America does not do more to stop the drugs gangs buying guns in the US, where they are much easier to obtain.
"It's not only guns. It's night vision goggles. It's body armour," said Mrs Clinton. "These criminals are outgunning the law enforcement officials." More than 8,000 people have been killed in drug-related fighting since January 2008.
But I am left confused, not hard to do when listening to Mrs. BJ Clinton. How exactly does one buy Grenades, Rocket Launchers and full auto rifles in the USA? Since all this stuff is greatly restricted, if even available. At gun shows I have attended recently, if there is one full auto rifle for sale, and at prices of $3-5,000 each, who would be trying to sell more than one, it's a curiosity. Crowds gather to just see it in the flesh. So can't you just see the average Mexican dirt farmer, drug dealer on the side, stumbling into a gun show to pick up few grenades? Or even doing a few straw purchases of grenades.
The premise of this whole story is just silly.
So what is going on? Simple, it's the leftards and their old saw "we need more gun control in the USA so Mexico can be free from the drug weapons they get from Venezuela". Huh? Venezuela? Yes, you heard me right, the weapons of the drug trade in Mexico are mostly Soviet era weapons, likely imported through Venezuela, if not other places in South and Central America. Nope, won't find the information in the USA news press, "news" is an oxymoron anyway, that would be too damaging to their socialist buddy Chavez, but here it is:
"Venezuela's Chavez orders Russian warplanes, plans gun factory"So where again are the weapons coming from Mrs. BJ Clinton? And why is the drug trade in Mexico America's problem again? And isn't it true that our good friend Hugo Chavez has the most to gain with supplying weapons to the Mexican drug gangs and destabilizing the USA- Mexican border? Maybe a few bombs are in order, on Venezuelan arms factories.
...
Recent purchases have included 100,000 automatic rifles from Russia
Speaking during a ceremony to present the new rifles to soldiers in Caracas, Chavez said his government would soon build a factory to produce Kalashnikov machine guns.
Except for the little problem, Hugo Chavez is the USA leftards best bud.

Obama to G-20: We Must Act Fast on Crisis
Newser reports:
President Obama published an op-ed piece in more than 30 newspapers worldwide today, urging the G-20 nations to take immediate, bold action to fix the economy. “The United States is ready to lead,” he wrote in the Los Angeles Times, among others, “and we call on our partners to join us with a sense of urgency.” Included was a call for broad stimulus action—something the European Central Bank opposes. The LA Times has a copy of the full article, written by who is not known. The by-line is Barack Obama, but hey who knows who really put pen to paper. The smallness of it all is demonstrated by a direct copy of the first few lines:
“We cannot settle for the status quo,” he continued, demanding increased regulation, transparency, and a check on “out-of-control compensation,” along with a crackdown on offshore tax havens and money laundering. “America bears its share of responsibility for the mess that we all face,” he said. But “the nations of the world have a stake in one another,” and together can face the challenges.
Catchy title, don't you think?

We are living through a time of global economic challenges that cannot be met by half-measures or the isolated efforts of any nation. Now, the leaders of the G-20 have a responsibility to take bold, comprehensive and coordinated action that not only jump-starts recovery but launches a new era of economic engagement to prevent a crisis like this from ever happening again.

Government Causes The Problem
Signed into law on December 16, 2003, ADDI was created by Congress to help home buyers with down payment and closing cost assistance. The goal of ADDI is to increase home ownership rates, especially among lower income and minority households, and to revitalize and stabilize communities. From the law description, here:
ADDI aims to increase the home ownership rate, especially among lower income and minority households, and to revitalize and stabilize communities. ADDI will help first-time home buyers with the biggest hurdle to home ownership: down payment and closing costs. The program was created to assist low-income first-time home buyers in purchasing single-family homes by providing funds for down payment, closing costs, and rehabilitation carried out in conjunction with the assisted home purchase. In other words, let people own homes who can't meet normal mortgage qualifications, because we want to make it easy for people.
When you give people an expensive home with low variable mortgage rate payments, you get home buyers who couldn't normally afford to feed an extra piss ant with their salary, buying houses. You also get the implosion that is now the current situation in the housing market. Yes the 'hot market' attracted speculators, just like last time, and when the implosion came the speculators were last high and dry. About every third house in my area is vacant.
This happened before ... history repeats:
It's called the Savings and Loan crisis of 1982. Jimmy Carter left office in January 1981, a year in which 3,300 out of 3,800 S&Ls lost money -- Due mostly to the disaster that Jimmy Carter made of the US economy, things were in dismal shape. By 1982 the fix was believed to be deregulation. In 1982, the combined tangible net capital of this industry was $4 billion. Although the deregulation of S&Ls gave them many of the capabilities of banks, it did not bring them under the same regulations as banks. First, thrifts could choose to be under either a state or a federal charter. Immediately after deregulation of the federally chartered thrifts, the state-chartered thrifts rushed to become federally chartered, because of the advantages associated with a federal charter. In response, states (notably, California and Texas) changed their regulations so they would be similar to the federal regulations. States changed their regulations because state regulators were paid by the thrifts they regulated, a really convenient nest wouldn't you say?
And then there was the real estate market. After years of suffering under the Carter years, it came alive and by 1982 it was boiling over. Cash was available to finance anything so they did. In an effort to take advantage of the real estate boom and high interest rates of the late 1970s and early 1980s, many S&Ls lent far more money than was prudent, and to risky ventures which many S&Ls were not qualified to assess. Hence was born the Resolution Trust Corporation, to try and fix the problem, mainly by liquidating assets, mainly real estate, of failed S&Ls.
Now we are back where we started, the government created a huge problem with ADDI 2003, allowing scores of people to buy houses who had no business doing so, nor did they have the capability to pay off the mortgages. Someone will pay, who do you think that some will be.
Those of you who missed out with Jimmy Carter are going to get a chance to live the reruns next year. Nearly all the crap being proposed by Democrats today has tried and tested by Jimmy Carter and deemed a dismal failure. Carter was especially good with middle east policy, he set up the mullahs with the state of Iran and the whole of the Islamic terror went worldwide in his time. He was a nice guy, nuclear engineer he used to tell us, so he knew energy we were told -- He let our hostages stay in Iranian prisons for 444 days, until a new President took office. Then the hostages were released the same day.
This time the mullahs will likely have nukes to play with.
Suggest you get your finances in order. History is not a continuum, it's a loop.

Oakland Shootings
"(Mixon) was on parole and he had a warrant out for his arrest for violating that parole. And he was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon," said Oakland police Deputy Chief Jeffery Israel.Does this mean it was illegal for him to have guns? And carry them? And have an "assault weapon"? And kill? How many violations were put on the books before we need more gun laws comes up?
The shocking thing to me is he was on parole ... Why?
Police said they did not know exactly why the officers initially stopped the suspect, but said it apparently was a routine traffic stop.
And then there is this:
People lingered at the scene of the first shooting. About 20 bystanders taunted police.Isn't this what is really ticking out there? And isn't this really the main reason people are buuying guns at a frantic pace? Remember those Korean shopkeepers with their 12 GA in the LA Rodney King riots?
Tension between police and the community has risen steadily since the fatal shooting of unarmed 22-year-old Oscar Grant by a transit police officer at an Oakland train station on Jan. 1.
Doesn't Obama want to release the GITMO terrorists into America? Why?
Time To Look Back At Odinga
The video was made about the 2006-7 Kenyan Presidential election.
For America, it just keeps on getting worse ... depressing that this Obama fellow appears to be trying to max out the numbers of hate filled things he can get going at once. Ask yourself, why would he be doing that?
One of the key things that Odinga was doing was trying to redistribute Kenya's wealth to the poor. Same thing as communists worldwide have tried, and failed at.
Now we have our very own communist and guess what he is doing?
This will shock you, but one of the things AIG was doing was bringing Islamic financing to America. Another reason Obama says it must be saved?
Winter Is Not Over

Medical workers help a stranded driver blocked by heavy snowfall near the Serbian city of Nis, 200 kms south of the capital Belgrade. Swept by strong crosswinds, the unrelenting snowfall left motorists stranded for up to 12 hours in both directions
Meanwhile, the sun did eat this nice tasty comet ... burp.

Explanation: The Sun destroyed this comet. Arcing toward a fiery fate, this Sungrazer comet was recorded by the SOHO spacecraft's Large Angle Spectrometric COronagraph(LASCO) on 1996 Dec. 23. LASCO uses an occulting disk, partially visible at the lower right, to block out the otherwise overwhelming solar disk allowing it to image the inner 5 million miles of the relatively faint corona. The comet is seen as its coma enters the bright equatorial solar wind region (oriented vertically). Spots and blemishes on the image are background stars and camera streaks caused by charged particles. Positioned in space to continuously observe the Sun, SOHO has now been use to discover over 1,500 comets, including numerous sungrazers. Based on their orbits, they are believed to belong to a family of comets created by successive break ups from a single large parent comet which passed very near the sun in the twelfth century. The Great Comet of 1965, Ikeya-Seki, was also a member of the Sungrazer family, coming within about 650,000 kilometers of the Sun's surface. Passing so close to the Sun, Sungrazers are subjected to destructive tidal forces along with intense solar heat. This comet, known as SOHO 6, did not survive.

They urged the administration to avoid a "long and divisive fight over a gun control issue" at a time when Washington needs to concentrate on the economic crisis.

A Bridge For Microsoft
Reports that troubled insurer AIG will pay out $160 million worth of bonuses with government bailout handouts have caused a public outcry over the past few days.
However, it's not just financial institutions that are reaping the benefits of free, government cash. Bloomberg is reporting that Microsoft also got a piece of the action, and will spend $11 million to build a bridge connecting two areas of its Redmond campus.
A Microsoft spokesman claims the 480-foot span will benefit the area as a whole, not just Microsoft, as a nearby bridge is congested and not good for walking or cycling. You might think this is quite a lame excuse for scooping up government funds, and you would be right.
Microsoft will still cover more than half of the total $36.5 million building cost. Oh yes, did we forget to mention that Microsoft has about $20 billion in the bank?
More here.
Tyranny And The 2nd Amendment
"Mankind will in time discover that unbridled majorities are as tyrannical and cruel as unlimited despots." – John AdamsToday's outrage of AIG and their Obama approved bonuses is an fine example of Adams' quote.
The Second Amendment went through a sort of rebirth last year, when a crystal clear ruling from the US Supreme Court ruled that it does indeed protect an individual right to keep and bear arms. And it spelled out two primary purposes, neither of which includes duck hunting. The first was the right to self defense. Isn't that one obvious? The second is the right to defend country against all enemies foreign and domestic. And yes it did establish that common infantry weapons available to the military were in fact the weapons that were to be protected from government. That would be those 'black scary' weapons Diane Feinstein is always waving around saying they should be banned.
Well for liberals, it amounted to a rebirth, if not an abortion.
The idea of tyranny is to reduce the effectiveness of the enemy, the enemy, that would be the people the tyrants rule over. And with a whole lot of nations of the world, Mexico being our closest neighbor is one of the worse (they prevent their citizens from owning a military caliber weapon) -- Most tyrannical nations take the approach of restricting military style arms from civilian use. Makes the tyrants job a whole lot safer and much easier.
You can extrapolate what you will from the way our Democrats and tyrants behave towards 'black scary' weapons and draw your own conclusions. Did you ever think that they are black because that is one of the easiest plastics to make durable? Personally I prefer wood stocked, but the durability factor is far in favor of plastics.
Most in the Supreme Court chamber seem to agree that the Second Amendment protects an individual right. The issues most in contention include the meaning of the words "keep" and "bear," and whether the amendment protects the possession of arms only during militia service or also for self-defense; whether a total ban on handguns is a "reasonable" regulation of firearms; whether restrictions on the right to arms should be subject to "strict scrutiny," or legislatures or courts should be able to decide what is "reasonable;" and what kinds of regulations would be "reasonable" under the Second Amendment.
To allow easily access and the ability to navigate through all of the detailed information we've compiled on District of Columbia v. Heller, NRA-ILA unveils a new site -http://www.nraila.org/heller/-that contains related articles and the dozens of amicus briefs filed in the case.
A Gallup poll finds that an overwhelming majority of the United States public-73%-believes that the Second Amendment guarantees the right of Americans to own firearms.
Consider that socialism and Communism in it's varying forms killed 100-125 million people throughout the 20th century, in pursuit of perfection. Next time you hear some socialist extolling the virtues, you might want to bring this up.

The Luck Of The Dodd
It’s St. Patrick’s Day! And no one feels luckier than Christopher Dodd! Did you know he owns an estate among the shamrocks in Ireland? Connecticut must not be good enough for the ol’ lad.
The whole Dodd clan even moved to Iowa. Home sweet home! But not as sweet as his sweetheart mortgage deal from his friend Angelo Mozilo! How lucky!
Oh, but how unlucky his constituents in Connecticut are. No wonder his poll numbers are bottoming out…like a pint of Guinness! The Luck o’ the Dodd is running out!
The National Republican Senatorial Committee is responsible for the content of this advertising.
Well Now Isn't This Just Special
Seems like Obama knows who the culrit really is ... Senator Dodd on Monday night floated the idea of taxing American International Group bonus recipients so the government could recoup the $450 million the company is paying to employees in its financial products unit. Within hours, the idea spread to both houses of Congress, with lawmakers proposing an AIG bonus tax. Can you say unconstitutional Bill of Attainder? Yeah, but who cares.
While the Senate constructed the $787 billion stimulus last month, Dodd unexpectedly added an executive-compensation restriction to the bill. That amendment provides an “exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009,” which exempts the very AIG bonuses Dodd and others are seeking to tax. The amendment is in the final version and is law.
Also, Sen. Dodd was AIG’s largest single recipient of campaign donations during the 2008 election cycle with $103,100, according to opensecrets.org.

Obama's Green Energy Plan
"Eventually, we can get to a system where an electric company will be able to hold back some of the power so that maybe your air conditioner won't operate at its peak, you'll still be able to cool your house, but that'll be a savings to the consumer. And so [we will be] giving people and companies a role in the management of how we use electricity."It’s for our own good, and it will save us money Carol Browner told US News and World Report:
BTW: If your air conditioner doesn't have enough power to operate properly, if it doesn't turn itself off, it burns out. You cannot operate on less power than what something needs. And it's just ignorant to suggest that.
Synchronized Chaos
Two metronomes are placed on a common base. The metronome on the left is set at 192 beats per minute. The one on the right is set at a slightly lower rate. The metronome pendulums are initially out-of-phase. The two pendulums oscilate in phase due to conservation of momentum and coupling via the base. A true physics masterpiece!
And then there is five:
Huygen's pendulums: weak linkages can eventually synchronize all four

Despite overwhelming public opposition, the so-called "stimulus" was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama. As a result, your portion of the national debt increased by $9,400, Congress created more than 30 new federal programs and spent lavishly on non-stimulative projects, including $650 million alone on digital television converter box subsidies. This takes money out of the pockets of regular Americans to pay for more wasteful spending.
What's your biggest frustration about the government's appetite for more spending in the midst of the tough economic climate?
Find out how to speak up, make a difference, and win $500.
From the Video:
Today, we face the most dire economic crisis since the Great Depression. A dangerous trend of over-spending, stoked by government irresponsibility, is the prime culprit for getting us in this mess. Now our country's leaders insist more spending of taxpayers' dollars will get us out. STOP. Americans sat back as the government committed over half of our GDP as "rescue funds" over the last year. We won't sit back anymore. Visit StopSpendingOurFuture.org and see who's speaking out against policies that will spend away our country's future.
And now, because all the trillions spent so far haven't worked, our fearless leaders want more stimulus spending, for government. When will it end? When everyone works for government.

Without comment, the justices decided not to review a ruling by a three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which declared on April 30 that federal law protected the manufacturers from such suits.
The appeals court had overturned a decision by Judge Jack B. Weinstein of Federal District Court in Brooklyn, who ruled in 2005 that the suit could proceed despite protests by gun makers like Beretta U.S.A., Browning Arms, Colt Manufacturing, Glock and Smith & Wesson. The gun companies had complained that a federal law passed just two months earlier shielded them from such suits.

An Inconvenient Truth
Executive Summary
• The movie, An Inconvenient Truth, is regularly shown in public schools in North America.
• An Inconvenient Truth, hosted and produced by former U.S. vice-president Al Gore, presents the viewpoint that human-caused CO2 emissions are responsible for global warming.
• In reality, there is no demonstrable causal relationship between the CO2 record and the temperature record at any point in earth’s history.
• When the United Kingdom’s government announced it planned to distribute a copy of the movie to every secondary school, a lawsuit was launched which asserted schools should not be party to promoting propaganda to students.
• Judge Michael Burton ruled that while he felt the movie was “broadly accurate” it contained too many substantial errors to be shown in public schools without a disclaimer.
• In his ruling, Judge Burton identified nine scientific errors in the movie that were serious enough to warrant correction.
• An Inconvenient Truth is regularly shown in Canadian public schools; they would be well advised to look at this example and re-examine some of their practices.
• Teachers need to ensure that students receive a rigorous education where they learn the facts and all the different perspectives — regardless of whether they fi t into the popular version of environmentalism.

In addition to the features that were already available to turn on or off in Windows Vista, we’ve added the following features to the list in Windows 7:PS: I was also goaded into trying Linux Mint, since I am a big fan of Ubuntu. I must say, the experience has been great, Linux Mint is what Ubuntu should be. Yeah, I know why Ubuntu do what they do.
- * Windows Media Player
- * Windows Media Center
- * Windows DVD Maker
- * Internet Explorer 8
- * Windows Search
- * Handwriting Recognition (through the Tablet PC Components option)
- * Windows Gadget Platform
- * Fax and Scan
- * XPS Viewer and Services (including the Virtual Print Driver)
It is worth describing the details of “remove” since this too is a place where there are engineering and customer decisions to be made. We’ve already seen one decision which is to make sure we keep the features staged for future use so that a DVD is not required. A second decision is that we also continue to support the APIs available for features where these APIs are necessary to the functionality of Windows or where there are APIs that are used by developers that can be viewed as independent of the component. As many of you know these are often referred to as “dependencies” and with Windows the dependencies can run both internal to Windows and external for ISVs.This should calm fears and quite the complaints that Windows 7 locks people into MS software and applications.
I also assembled a Intel Quad core and the results with current applications and 64 bit software are mixed. More on this as it develops.
Obama's Bear
WALLACE: Well, as we've been discussing, the stock market is officially in bear territory, down exactly 20% since the Obama inauguration. Brit, John McCain didn't want to answer the question, but I'll ask you. Is this the Obama bear market?Obama is more focused on pushing his socialist agenda than fixing the currents financial crisis.
HUME: It's kind of a bear market within a bear market. The market was already down tremendously over the previous year, and I think most people entered this period of the new Obama administration thinking that it probably was bottoming out and that he would give by his very presence and by what he would offer real hope and that it would at least change the psychology a bit. It has changed the psychology, it seems, for the worse and I think he does bear responsibility for that, and the impression that he has managed to leave is that he's too busy with massive new spending and a scatter shot stimulus bill which was reckless and breathless new initiatives. On top of that you have this budget with all these breathtaking new initiatives to reorder our lives in a multitude of ways.
In the meantime, first order of business, the unfinished business of the previous administration. First order of business for the new administration, the financial crisis, the credit crisis. And, so far, no plan of any discernible shape of dealing with that. A couple of pieces in place as Governor Kaine pointed out. But that's what the market is looking for. It hasn't come. It's very hard. But, that's the big problem.
2000-2008: What Low Fed Interest Rates Did
After 9/11 the fed drastically lowered their interest rates to near zero. The fed rate bottomed out about July 2002 and stayed there until about July 2005.
The mortgage crisis was preloaded into the system staring with the CRA of 1977. By 2003 the mortgage rates were so low, that buying houses with no money down, and very low adjustable mortgage rates(ARM). The credit checks were already removed from the system, allowing anyone to essentially buy homes. Including in our area, illegals aliens bought houses. In some criminal cases filed locally, illegals provided the 'warm bodies' to apply for the low interest no down loans, the racketeers used multiple illegal aliens to acquire large numbers of homes and condos.
The noise attracted more people to participate, some began buying more than one house, just making low INITIAL payments. Flipping became the buzzword which allowed people to 'buy into' instant profits. It didn't last.
Then came another ratchet up, equity loans. Don't know about your situation, but we used to get multiple calls a day for us to take out equity loans, cash in on the ever increasing value of our home. We didn't bite, but plenty of people did. They then spent the money and the rates started going up, the home values started dropping. Tell me you weren't tempted by the 'easy money sell' on home equity loans ...
I doubt we spent ‘all the money’ on consumer goods. I will acknowledge that the home equity market was going nuts in my area of south Florida, the pushing to borrow on your home equity at low interest rates, and spend, was insane. The condos of South Beach Miami is like a disaster area as a result of this, and the insane up up and away buying.
We have criminal cases in the Florida courts right now, where rings of scam artists were using illegals to buy many houses, at the no down, no credit check point. All they needed was a Spanish name and how to mark an X on the forms. And yes, some banks and mortgage companies were the ones behind the scamming. All the scammers wanted, and they were mostly fly by night mortgage companies, were the lending fees.
However, IMHO, the financial chaos all rests on the CRA and lending rules changes, which allowed the insane lending process to take place -- Without the “no credit report” borrowing allowed, the majority of the out of control home loans, which drove up home prices, would not have happened.
There is enough evidence in the public about the scams to know what was going on. It wasn't the lenders, or even the scammers, it was the enabling CRA, the lending rules changes, Fannie and Freddie, that caused the underlying problem.
One thing that is true and inviolate, you cannot spend and tax to a sustainable economy. The Acting President Obama is a financial disaster for America.
Keynesian Economics 101 : "If you won't spend your money WE WILL, and your kid's too!"
The Sound Of Settled Science
Psychologically, people tend to be Bayesian—to the extent of often making false connections. And that risk of false connection is why scientists like Pascal's version of the world. It appears to be objective. But when models are built, it is almost impossible to avoid including Bayesian-style prior assumptions in them. By failing to acknowledge that, model builders risk making serious mistakes. The example they provide shows just how fundamental an issue this is.
“SCIENCE” is a recently coined word. When the Royal Society, the world's oldest academy of the discipline, was founded in London in 1660, the subject was referred to as natural philosophy. In the 19th century, though, nature and philosophy went their separate ways as the natural philosophers grew in number, power and influence.
Nevertheless, the link between the fields lingers on in the name of one of the Royal Society's journals, Philosophical Transactions. And appropriately, the latest edition of that publication, which is devoted to the science of climate modelling, is in part a discussion of the understanding and misunderstanding of the ideas of one particular 18th-century English philosopher, Thomas Bayes. …
The Acting President Obama
It's now becoming common knowledge that Obama has a problem. Born in Hawaii, given up for adoption by his mother, and taken to Indonesia at the age of 2, he lived his entire formative years as a child in a country that is ruled by a ... Muslim Military Junta. His formative years, his life's experiences, were all formed of a foreign land. A land that most Americans would not recognize. Values Americans have no idea what they mean. The fake President, produced by Hollywood and our PRAVDA media, all to be consumed by mostly ignorant voters. The playing field poisoned by a 24/7 does of BDS hysteria put out by the Bush hating media.
So when it comes to making American sounding speeches, he has difficulty. But he has a fix. The Politico reveals the truth, his Teleprompter buddy.
Obama's safety net: the TelePrompterAnd a footnote ... It is important to remember Obama's mentors, like the Rev Wright, who, he wrote glowingly of in his book, "Dreams from my father" including the most incendiary quotes.
The textbook-sized panes of glass holding the president’s prepared remarks follow him wherever he speaks.
Resting on top of a tall, narrow pole, they flank his podium during speeches in the White House’s stately parlors. They stood next to him on the floor of a manufacturing plant in Indiana as he pitched his economic stimulus plan. They traveled to the Department of Transportation this week and were in the Capitol Rotunda last month when he paid tribute to Abraham Lincoln in six-minute prepared remarks.
Obama’s reliance on the teleprompter is unusual — not only because he is famous for his oratory, but because no other president has used one so consistently and at so many events, large and small.
After the teleprompter malfunctioned a few times last summer and Obama delivered some less-than-soaring speeches, reports surfaced that he was training to wean himself off of the device while on vacation in Hawaii. But no such luck.
'Dreams From My Father', Page 293
'"... It is this world, a world where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-a-Prince see in a year, where white folks' greed runs a world in need, apartheid in one hemisphere, apathy in another hemisphere ... That's the world! On which hope sits."
And so it went, a meditation on a fallen world. While the boys next to me doodled on their church bulletin, Reverend Wright spoke of Sharpesville and Hiroshima, the callousness of policy makers in the White House and in the State House ... "'
Barack Obama has the words "white folks' greed runs a world in need" in his book within quotation marks.
One last point, who was Obama's father, he was qute simply a full fledged Marxist who was trying to change Kenya's sort of Democracy into a Marxist/Communist State.
Some of us knew who this fellow was before the election, the media bubble of sycophant butt boys prevented the public at large from learning the truth.

Bjorn Lomborg: Let’s Spend Smarter to Save the World

If the global warming circus has a bad boy, it’s Bjorn Lomborg, the Danish author of “The Skeptical Environmentalist” and longtime foil of folks clamoring for big global socialist schemes to tackle climate change, like former vice president Al Gore.
Mr. Lomborg, speaking at the WSJ Eco:nomics conference in California, is sticking to his guns. In a nutshell, he says, that means “If we are going to spend money to do good, let’s try to do the most good.”
His Copenhagen Consensus, a gathering of Nobel-prize winners, drafts a wishlist for global problem solving—not just focusing on energy, but everything from education to combatting tuberculosis. Audience members at the conference voted for education and energy research as their top priorities.
Mr. Lomborg’s presecription for saving the world does not mean signing up for another Kyoto protocol to slowly curb greenhouse-gas emissions, but doing little things such as spending on better nutrition and healthcare in the developing world, he says. He’s afraid the global climate talks slated for Copenhagen in December will be a simple continuation of the climate gabfest circuit that started in Rio de Janiero in 1992: “Let’s try again, but make it even harder,” he scoffs.
If cap-and-trade plans like Kyoto are a bust, what should the world do? Vastly ramping up research and development of new energy technology offers the most bang for the buck, he says, and is “absolutely better” than capping carbon emissions. Each dollar spent on energy R&D would bring $11 in benefits, his group figures; each dollar spent on traditional cap-and-trade plans brings about $0.90 in benefits.

Ending The CO2 Drives Climate Argument
President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus criticizes the strong government control at The Wall Street Journal’s Eco:nomics Conference. In this interview with Robert Thomson, managing editor of The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Klaus also argues against the idea of global warming.
This right here would end the politics of the AGW argument. For the last 10 years the earth's mean temperature has been flat and over the last few years dropping. Meanwhile CO2 is rising, gone up a few parts per million(ppm) in the last century, proving CO2 is not the forcing factor of Earth's climate. UK MET office data will do fine, although NOAA has now fixed the errors in their data and it agrees with the UK MET office.
Neither data set takes into account the warming distortion causing a skew in the surface temperatures because of the urban heat island effect of station siting, bad measuring station placements not meeting USHCN specifications, or other factors that are in control of the people running the monitoring stations.
End of story for this hoax. But some more facts ...
The sun's modern maxima came to an abrupt end in fall 2005. Yes that's right, the sun's modern maxima is the most recent period where the sun was radiating more than usual energy to the Earth, About 1930-2004. Any sunspots chart will show that data if you care to check it out. Try solarcycle24.com for all the latest charts and data. The data comes direct from the most reliable sources.
You are right, do some reading and research, use real corrected surface temperature data sets. Use real satellite data. Prof Bob Carter has a video lecture series on youtube that can be helpful in getting an overall picture of the real aspects of Earth's always changing climate.
Also while you are at it, check for that warming blanket surrounding the Earth, yes we now have satellites that actually directly measure it, look right where the GCMs predict it should be. One major problem, it's not there is it?
Did you know that actually greenhouses, those things they grow plants in, don't warm up and the operators increase the CO2 to about 1200 ppm so the plants grow bigger, faster and get greener?
Did you know that if we lowered the CO2 in the atmosphere to less than about 200 ppm, about half what it is today, most plants plants on Earth would die.
Did you know that if we removed CO2 from the atmosphere, all life on Earth would disappear as CO2 is necessary for photosynthesis and cellular respiration -- CO2 is literally the stuff of life for carbon life forms on Earth, and yes that includes man. CO2 is not as some alarmists say, a pollutant.
Do some reading, forget politics. Yes Greenland was name Greenland back about 1000 AD because, well you know, the Vikings found it was green and they could farm and raise livestock. It's now too cold for those activities in the scale they were when the Vikings were there.
At the same period in time, grapes grew in London, might make sense all those streets named after vines, grapes and wines when you think about it -- Yes wine was produced in England at the same time the Vikings were farming Greenland. Odd.
One more point, since the end of the last glaciation period, about 12,000 years ago, sea level has risen by 100 meters or so. Yep, that's 100 meters, to where it is today.
Next up, the real ice age. Facts and real data, better than all the political arguments you can make.
If you want to tax, ration and regulate energy, then at least have the honesty to say so.

The Mortgage Bailout, Worse That First Though
New rule when talking about Acting President Obama. When you get advance information you need to wait until the final paper comes out, then you can actually read what is being done. Only after you see the actual documents, can you then see how bad it really is, and how screwed the American people are becoming with this radical Marxist President.
Since most don't read the particulars, and depend on our parrot PRAVDA media to, we are in really deep doo-doo.
Hans Bader at OpenMarket.org looks at the Obama housing bailout and finds that it is even worse than it looks at first glance:
Yesterday, I wrote about how high-income people with $700,000 homes, who are in no danger of becoming homeless, would benefit from the Obama Administration’s massive taxpayer-financed mortgage-bailout plan, and how it would harm the economy in the long-run.Much more at the above link.
But now, it has become clear that I massively understated the case. The bailout would reduce borrowers’ payments to far below what many borrowers have long paid, with no difficulty whatsoever — reducing the payments of some to 15 or 20 percent of their income! In some regions of the country, much of the population will be eligible for a bailout.
As the New York Times explains, “To qualify, your monthly housing payment needs to exceed more than 31 percent of your gross monthly income (that means before any payroll deductions are made). Keep in mind that your “payment” includes more than just your mortgage’s principal and interest. It also includes real estate taxes” and other charges.
So if you pay 16 percent of your income in mortgage payments, and another 16 percent in real estate taxes, and the total adds up to just 31 percent, you can have your mortgage payments cut under the bailout!
At the time I took out my mortgage in 2004, my combined mortgage and real estate tax payments were over 40 percent of my income (32 percent mortgage, 8 percent property tax). I had no difficulty paying that, since I was thrifty. But people who pay far less of their income than I did will receive a bailout, provided they didn’t save any money (other than in their retirement plan). Why? Because if they have no non-retirement savings, they can claim (as is sufficient to qualify for the bailout) that they “do not have enough liquid assets to pay [their] mortgage at its existing level. [Their] retirement assets are not included in that equation.”
All of this unfairness might be tolerable if the plan had any hope of spurring an economic recovery. But it doesn’t. The stock markets have fallen like a stone since the Obama Administration pushed through its bailout and stimulus packages. And investors are spooked, as Stanford University economist Michael Boskin notes in his Wall Street Journal column, “Obama’s Radicalism Is Killing the Dow.”

Obamaloon Cramer Goes Off
UPDATE:White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs jumped on CNBC host Jim Cramer yesterday for his analysis of the economic situation. Later in the day Jim Cramer responded to the White House attacks:
Cramer pointed to the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500, Nasdaq and the Russell Index, all of which are down huge since Inauguration Day.
CNBC reported:
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on Tuesday pushed back against Cramer’s comments that President Obama has caused “the greatest wealth destruction I have seen by a president.”
“I’m not sure what he’s pointing to, to make some of the statements,” Gibbs told reporters, adding that Mad Money is geared toward a small audience while Obama has to help the entire country.
Cramer in response pointed to the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500, Nasdaq and the Russell Index, all of which are down huge since Inauguration Day. And the only small thing about the MadMo audience, he said, is its 401(k)s, pension plans and annuities after the damage Obama’s proposed spending plans have caused the markets.
The stock market right now is a better barometer of Americans’ wealth than the president and his press secretary seem to realize, Cramer said. And while Obama said he’s focused on Main Street rather than Wall Street, he needs to realize the two are merging. Everday people today have a tremendous amount of exposure to stocks and the declining markets.
President Obama even went so far as to say that right now was a good time to buy stocks. Cramer, of course, is far less optimistic.
